My First Solo Road Trip

I did something big this weekend—something that might seem small to others, but for me, it meant a lot. I drove to Austin, Texas. By myself. Just me, some phone call support, my music, a lunchbox with water and snacks, and a little bit of courage.

It was a 3-hour drive—my first “big girl” road trip—and it marked a new chapter in my independence. I’ve only had my license for a couple of years, and while I’ve been slowly building my confidence behind the wheel, this was the first time I ventured that far on my own. No real co-pilot, no backup driver, just me navigating the open road.

The best part? I was headed to celebrate my sister’s birthday, which made the experience even more special.

The first thing I did when I arrived? Went straight to my sister’s apartment. I had to tinkle so bad. I think my nervous system was in such shock from the drive that I didn’t even feel it the entire 3 hours.

Her apartment is so them—her and her girlfriend. The moment I walked in, I was like, “Yep, this is their vibe.” It’s cozy, cute, and filled with their energy (love). I love that she’s building her own little life out here in Texas and putting down roots.

They took me to the 360 Bridge Overlook in Austin. It was so beautiful.

If you ever visit Austin, it’s definitely worth the stop!

After that, they took me to Central Market (IYKYK). We were going back and forth on what to eat, then they had a moment of inspiration—pizza. So we went to Home Slice Pizza. We sat outside, enjoyed our food.

(Note to self: start taking more pictures again for my blog posts.)

Afterwards, I headed to my hotel to check in!

I stayed at the CitizenM Hotel in Downtown Austin—my go-to spot. I’ve stayed there about four times now.

I’m a creature of habit. If I like something, I stick with it. Same hotel, same restaurants, same routines. That’s just how I roll.

Which is why I’m so grateful to have family and friends who love trying new things—it gently pulls me out of my Cancer shell and reminds me there’s magic in the unfamiliar.

Since I’m such a creature of habit, I had to laugh when I was checking in on the app and it asked if I wanted the same room as my last stay… and of course, I said yes. LMFAO.

There’s just something comforting about familiar spaces, especially when you’re traveling solo. It makes the experience feel a little more grounded.

I really wish I took photos of the lobby—it’s so dope and funky. The vibe is unmatched. Every time I walk in, I’m like, “Okay, CitizenM, I see you.” It truly gives “Keep Austin Weird”

Another reminder to myself: take more photos. Even of the little things. They’re part of the story too.

After settling into my room, I wasted no time—I changed and headed straight to the gym. I love the gym at CitizenM. It’s clean, well-equipped, has a great view, and has the kind of vibe that makes you want to move your body.

I got in a solid total body workout, and I’m so glad I did. After sitting for hours during the drive, it felt good to stretch, sweat, and shake off the road trip stiffness.

After the gym I headed back to my room to shower and get ready for my sisters birthday celebration.

Forever in my skinny jeans!

We had dinner at Santa Catarina—and wow. The food, the atmosphere… ahhh-mazinggg!

Mocktail!

Dinner that night was special for so many reasons. I got to meet Alexis’s (my sister’s future wifey) parents for the first time. We shared laughs, swapped personal stories, cracked jokes, and opened our hearts around the table. And of course, we ended the night singing Happy Birthday to my sister.

These two are so in love. You know that couple that’s all about the affection—kisses, hugs, holding hands, the whole thing? That’s them. And the beautiful part is, when you watch them together, you don’t just see the love—you feel it. It radiates.

Dear BooBoo,

Remember when I told you I bought you a card but didn’t have the words (or energy) to write in it? Well… turns out you made it to the blog instead!

Being your big sister is something I don’t take lightly. Watching you grow, do life your way, and become more you with each season—it's the kind of thing that makes my heart full.

Aryy, it’s been such a joy to witness your journey. I love being someone you can turn to when you need a little guidance, a big hug, or just a moment to laugh through life with.

Happy Birthday, I’m proud of you!

Whatever you wished for - I know it will come true!

To those who made it to the end, thank you for reading and riding along with me on this little adventure.

My Final Message:
Facing your fears and stepping outside your comfort zone will only expand you. The more you lean in, the more life meets you with growth, confidence, and beautiful surprises.

Whether it’s a solo road trip, trying something new, or simply saying “yes” to yourself, just know, you’ve got this.

Until next time!
